VIDEOJET® Introduces New White and Red High Contrast Inks for Extrusion Applications

Wood Dale, Ill—January 14, 2014— In response to the growing demand for specialized and functional inks for the extruded pipe, hose, cable and wire industry, Videojet Technologies launches two new inks for its 1710 small character continuous inkjet printer. A global leader in coding, marking and printing solutions, Videojet expands its robust line of high-quality inks to provide greater printing options for manufacturers of extruded products with the introduction of V494 White and V493 Red High Contrast inks.

“We’ve added to our ink lineup for our 1710 small character inkjet printer to offer customers even more high contrast printing ink solutions and options as we continually enhance our family of high-performing inks,” said John Kirschner, Videojet supplies business unit manager. “This ink gives customers greater flexibility to customize printing on a range of extruded substrates.”

V494 White Benefits and Applications

Videojet V494 White Ink is specially formulated for use on a variety of dark colored extruded pipes, hoses, cables and wires. This ink is particularly suited for manufacturers requiring superior tape-transfer code adhesion and higher contrast. V494 also shows good versatility and ink code durability, adhering to a variety of different tough-to-code plastic materials. It also features sun/UV fade resistance. Additional benefits of this new ink include:

  • Excellent code adhesion as proven by the industry’s “tape transfer test”
  • High contrast codes
  • Good product-to-product transfer resistance
  • Easy to use; faster and simpler printhead cleanings compared to those required when running similar pigmented inks

V493 Red High Contrast Benefits and Applications

Videojet V493 Red High Contrast ink is specially formulated for use as a functional alternative to more typical white inks for coding on extruded pipe, hose and cable substrates. The ink shows excellent adhesion and high contrast on both light and dark colored substrates, even after exposure to UV light. Primary benefits of this new ink are:

  • Visually distinctive, high-contrast color codes
  • Increased code assurance with lasting light fade resistance resulting from the pigmented formula
  • Ability for ink codes to withstand product contact pressure and elevated substrate temperatures; provides short-duration, high-temperature flame resistance without fading

V493C is uniquely formulated with white and red pigments to provide both brightness and color contrast, and as a result, fading occurs at a much slower rate compared to many other inks made with red dye.  The ink is designed to help increase a printer’s versatility in a production environment, reducing the expense of switching to different inks, and/or minimizing the need for spare printers dedicated to specific colors when production switches between different color extrusions.
